Arnold Schwarzenegger's next film won't be a 'Macho' one

Studios can't stop throwing projects Arnold Schwarzenegger's way. It's like the guy's been out of the loop for a few years or something. Forgetting that cartoon crap he's got coming up, Arnie's seen his name attached to any number of upcoming flicks, most prominently a proposed Terminator 5 with Justin Lin(Fast Five) at the helm. But that film is still a good ways away, and the Governator needs to get back out there now. Vulture reports that Arnold's chosen his next pick, and it's anything but the action flick we want it to be. He'll next be starring the drama, Cry Macho, from director Brad Furman(The Lincoln Lawyer).

Based on the 1975 book by late playwright N. Richard Nash(The Rainmaker), Arnold would star as “a damaged-goods horse trainer who’s just been ignominiously put out to pasture by his feckless boss. In exchange for some retirement money, the broken — and broke — horseman agrees to kidnap the boss’s 11-year-old son from his rich Mexican ex-wife. Things take an unexpected turn, however, when the ex-wife is all too glad to be rid of her juvenile delinquent.” Nash actually wrote the screenplay back in 2000 before he passed away, and Arnold was set to star in the film back then before he decided to blow an entire state's economy to smithereens.

This would seem to make for an odd return vehicle, but it's said that he wants to flex his acting muscles right out of the gate by doing something a bit more dramatic. I can understand that. It's just not the sort of thing I'd want to see him in right now. The hope is for the film to start production later this summer, but that will depend on how well it's shopped at Cannes.
