Perhaps the biggest surprise movie of the year for me so far has been Soul Surfer, the inspiration true story of pro surfer Bethany Hamilton. In 2003 at the age of 13 she was the victim of a shark attack, losing her left arm in the process and possibly her ability to perform in the sport she loved forever. But through a combination of faith, strength, and a ton of support from her family and friends, she fought back to become one of the best professional surfers in the world today. Through her struggle she was able to teach others that some good can come from horrible tragedy, and to never give up on a dream. The film stars AnnaSophia Robb, Dennis Quaid, Helen Hunt, and Carrie Underwood in her feature debut.
