Finally! Deadpool has a director again!

The Deadpool headaches appear to be over. Deadline just broke the news that 20th Century Fox has tapped Tim Miller to be the director of the long anticipated Deadpool film. They refer to it as X-Men Origins: Deadpool, but that has to be a joke. Right?  Ryan Reynolds will be reprising the role he was really cool at for five minutes in X-men Origins: Wolverine. Rhett Reese and Paul Wernick(Zombieland) will be providing the script.

Miller will be making his directorial debut with this one, although he's been a visual effects guru on a wealth of eye popping flicks, most noticably on superhero movies like X2: X-men United and Daredevil. Even so it still seems like a pretty big gamble handing over the reins of a potential major franchise to a relative noob.  Just how this will play with the very rabid, very vocal Deadpool fanboys will be very interesting. I don't recall them being so nice when Adam Berg was temporarily attached. They were much more receptive to the idea of Robert Rodriguez, but sadly that fell through. By the way, I speak for the Deadpool fanboys because I am one of them. He's been my favorite Marvel character since he debuted in the pages of the New Mutants comic.

Now whether or not this move finally kicks production into gear is anyone's guess. The major problem remains Ryan Reynolds' disgustingly busy schedule, which has pushed Deadpool back to the point where it's totally out of sight. Last month Reynolds went on record as saying that the film was still in the works, and since he's been very much involved with it I take him at his word.
