The Sunday Drive: 4/10/11

3. Soul Surfer
AnnaSophia Robb and Dennis Quaid star in the inspiring true story of pro surfer Bethany Hamilton, who survived a shark attack that took her arm and threatened not only her life but the sport she loved. The deeply spiritual, uplifting film features Helen Hunt and Carrie Underwood in her theatrical debut.
2. Source Code
The smartest, crowd pleasing action thriller of the year features Jake Gyllenhaal as a soldier body jumping back in time to discover the culprit behind a devastating terrorist attack.

1. Hanna
Joe Wright knows he's found something special in his Atonement star, Saoirse Ronan, and here he pushes her innocent but icy gaze to new levels. As a child raised from birth to be a killer, Ronan is more than capable of holding her own opposite Cate Blanchett and anybody else they put in her way.

DVD Pick of the Week: Tron: Legacy
Jeff Bridges was probably as surprised as anybody when Disney gave him the calll that after 28 years he'd be stepping back into the neon suit of genius computer guy, Kevin Flynn. During that hiatus, Bridges has established himself as one of the deepest actors around, so at first it's a little strange seeing him as a sort of techno Yoda spouting half baked philosophy and exhibiting Force-like powers. But Tron: Legacy isn't even attempting to make any sense. It's all just an excuse for more pretty lights and, slick light cycles and devastating gladiatorial combat. So Bridges hamming it up for a couple of hours is a perfect fit. As far as long awaited sequels go, Tron isn't looking to be anything more than a fun, gorgeous diversion full of bright lights and pounding beats. In that it succeeds in spades.
