Of all the remakes of 80s films we've had recently, perhaps the oddest one of all is Craig Gillespie's
Fright Night
. The original 1985 film had a quirky premise: a horror fanatic learns that his next door neighbor is actually a real, blood sucking vampire. With the aid of his best friend and a vampire hunting actor, they attempt to put an end to him before he kills them all. Even though it was a bit cheesy, there were some real stakes involved. Nobody was safe, which is one of the reasons why I dug it. After being too scared to watch it back when it first came out, I checked it out later and quite enjoyed it. So the remake has some big shoes to fill, with the film's tone being the real question. Would they play it as more of straight up horror? Or try to find a little comedy middle ground? Going by these three new images that have just been released for it, I'm still uncertain. Although Colin Farrell as the vampire looks hella campy already.

The film stars Anton Yelchin(Star Trek
) as Charlie Brewster, the main character who discovers that his neighbor, Jerry Dandridge(Farrell) is a vamp. Imogen Poots(Jane Eyre) is Charlie's girlfriend, Amy. David Tennant(Bright Young Things
) will have big shoes to fill replacing Roddy McDowell as Peter Vincent. Christopher Mintz-Plasse is Charlie's best buddy, "Evil" Ed, while Toni Collette is Charlie's disbelieving mom. Fright Night is due to open in theaters on August 19th!
