Ron Livingston to coach Sarah Palin in HBO's Game Change
If you recall the lead-up to the 2008 Vice Presidential debate between Joe Biden and then virtual unknown Sarah Palin, the stories coming out of the McCain/Palin camp over her preparation were hysterical. They were also a foreshadowing of her flakiness if you ask me, such as her inability to remember anybody's name and her brain being a dead zone for any information outside of Wassilla. One of the men responsible for getting ready for the debate was former UN Ambassador Mark Wallace, who verified some of this stuff. I'm sure he never expected those dark days to be recalled so many years later, but they're about to become part of a film based around the campaign.
Deadline is reporting that Ron Livingston(Office Space) will play Wallace in HBO's political drama, Game Change, based on John Heilemann and Mark Halperin's book about the 2008 Presidential campaign trail. Jay Roach is back to direct, with Danny Strong penning the script. Both came together for HBO's hilarious(with a tinge of sadness) film on the 2000 election scandal, Recount.
So far this is shaping up to possibly be even better than Recount was if we're going off cast alone. Livingston will be working most closely with Julianne Moore, who will be playing the half-term governor turned reality star and eternal victim, Sarah Palin. Ed Harris is Senator John McCain, with Woody Harrelson as McCain's senior advisor Steve Schmidt. Or as I liked to call him at the time, the Schmidt-head. I'm still dying to see who they get to play Biden, and especially Barack and Michelle Obama.
