Maybe Sylvester Stallone is trying to make up for all the wrongs he committed with The Expendables last year, namely crappy direction and an amateurish script. Or he just wants another chance to work with a living legend. He's already backed down from writing and directing that sequel. Last week we learned that creative differences had driven Wayne Kramer(Running Scared) away from the director's seat for the film, Headshot, which sees Stallone as an older cop teaming with a young NYPD detective on a high stakes investigation leading from New Orleans to DC." Later that day, veteran filmmaker Walter Hill(The Warriors, 48 Hrs) had emerged as the leading contender to take over, pairing the action hero superstar with one of the great action movie directors ever, in my opinion. Now Stallone has confirmed with AICN that Hill is the pick, so let's crack open the champagne! Sly says...
“It’s official. We’ve got Walter Hill onboard so would love for you to let the world know.” Clearly a fan of Hill, he goes on to say, “We’ve been on the same track since ‘The Driver,’ then ‘48 Hrs’ didn’t happen so here we are almost 35 years later, I’m finally driving with Walter Hill.”
Really? Not always being up on my Stallone history(unless it's Gorgeous Ladies of Wrestling founder Jackie Stallone), I hadn't heard about Sly being up for either The Driver or 48 Hrs before, but since have heard from others stating it's true. Thank goodness it didn't happen in both regards because I love 'em just the way they are.
I'm a fan of Kramer's work, but Hill is a definite upgrade and a smart move by Stallone. Man, Headshot is going to be one serious machismo fest with Stallone and Hill on set. I'd love to be a fly on the wall during the script readthroughs. They'll probably be looking to cast the young detective role next, and considering the film was written by Alessandro Camon(The Messenger), I've got my fingers crossed it'll be Ben Foster.
