Tobey Maguire joins Ang Lee's Life of Pi

Ang Lee doesn't make nearly enough movies, if you ask me, but when he does he'll often have Tobey Maguire in tow.  The two have worked together on The Ice Storm and Ride with the Devil, and now they're set to work together again.  Variety reports that Maguire has committed to co-starring in his next film, Life of Pi, based on Yann Martel's best selling 2001 novel.

A world wide talent search conducted by Lee found him newcomer Suraj Sharma to star as Pi, a boy who survives a shipwreck and is left stranded in the middle of the ocean with a Bengal tiger and bunch of other animals. Soon, the tiger has killed everyone but Pi, who must use his wits and animal knowledge to survive. Maguire would play a writer interviewing Pi about his experiences. Irrfan Khan plays the adult Pi. Gerard Depardieu, Adil Hussein, and Bollywood actress Tabu co-star. Maguire would play a writer interviewing Pi about his fantastic experiences.

The film has had a host of directors taking stabs at getting the film made ever since the novel released almost a decade ago. Lee plans on releasing the film in 3D on December 14th, 2012.
