Emily Browning didn't have a heckuva lot to say in Zack Snyder's Sucker Punch, but she did get to kick a lot of robotic butt in another world. Unfortunately her reality was a terrible place where she was exploited by the men around her. In Browning's latest film, the Cannes Film Festival entry Sleeping Beauty, her character appears to be treading in similar waters.
Julia Leigh makes her directorial debut with the film, described as an erotic fairy tale, so don't expect to see any WWI zombie soldiers or giant samurais. Browning plays Lucy, a young college student who drifts into prostitution and drugs, before finding her role by letting men drug her and do things she won't remember in the morning. Pretty effed up stuff!
Jane Campion(Bright Star) is presenting the film, based on the 2008 Black List script by Leigh herself. Looks pretty intense and unflinching stuff. Based on that plot, it'd have to be! Check out the trailer below!
