Get ready. Tyler Perry will return as Alex Cross in 'Double Cross'

Is this a classic case of a studio counting their chickens before they've hatched? Or does QED International know something we don't? Certainly they've noticed the savage reviews Alex Cross is getting nailed with, and if they actually bothered to watch the movie it'd be apparent that Tyler Perry should stick to playing loudmouthed grandmothers. Whatever the case, they don't seem to care about what critics(and pretty soon fans) are saying, because they don't just want more Perry as Alex Cross....the want Double Cross!

Deadline has the story, stating that QED are putting together a deal to bring James Patterson's Double Cross to the big screen as the sequel to Alex Cross. QED financed the $25M to get the first piece of crap made, and they must expect that Perry's usually devoted fan base will continue to turn out in droves. Alex Cross was a prequel, following an early case in the homicide detective and forensic psychologist's career. While the novels have always been popular, they reached meteoric heights after Morgan Freeman portrayed the character in Kiss the Girls and Along Came a Spider. Double Cross is the 13th book in the series and has Cross squaring off against two serial killers, hence the title. Ugh.

As bad as Perry is, the biggest screw up with Alex Cross was hiring Rob Cohen(Stealth) as director, and I'm guessing that's a mistake that won't be repeated. Next month Perry is slated to write, direct, and star in Single Moms Club, so there's no clear start date for Double Cross just yet. Hopefully never?
