Joy! Laura Dern and two others join Paul Thomas Anderson's The Master

Every bit of casting news on Paul Thomas Anderson's upcoming film, previously titled The Master, is going to bring a smile to my face. Even if I don't recognize most of them, the fact that the movie is being made at all is a gift. For awhile there it looked it would never get off the ground.

Variety reports that Laura Dern(Jurassic Park), David Warshofsky(Taken), and Jesse Plemons(Friday Night Lights) have joined Philip Seymour Hoffman and Joaquin Phoenix in the religiously tinged flick. Hoffman stars as a guy named Lancaster Dodd, who returns home from WWII a disillusioned man. He begins a religion that begins to take hold in America. Joaquin Phoenix is Freddie Sutton, a former alcoholic who becomes Dodd's right hand man, until questions start to take hold. Dern has been rumored to be a part of the film for some time, and it's expected she'll take on the female lead as Dodd's wife.  Warshofsky will play a detective, while Plemons will be Dodd's son.

Dern can be seen right now in the Will Ferrell dramedy, Everything Must Go. Warshofsky is a veteran character actor who has worked with Anderson on There Will Be Blood. Plemons is a fast rising star, most recently appearing in the Simon Pegg/Nick Frost comedy, Paul.
