Could a Party Down movie be in the works?

Think about it: How many truly great shows that end before the audience wants them to actually end up getting movies made about them? Let's see...Arrested Development? Nope. Veronica Mars? Nada. The Wire? Zip. Deadwood? Zero. Rome? Negatory. All of those very popular, mostly low-rated shows have had a ton of talk about movies being made, and yet none have happened. Don't talk to me about Joss Whedon's Firefly getting a movie with Serenity. Firefly was so lowly rated half the people who saw Serenity didn't know it was a series at all.  It's happening again, though, and just like with Veronica Mars, show creator Rob Thomas finds himself in the middle of it and I'm not gonna get my hopes up!!

This time it's his hilarious half hour sitcom, Party Down, which featured a cast that would make any other higher rated show jealous. Jane Lynch, Adam Scott, Lizzy Caplan, Ken Marino, Jennifer Coolidge, Megan Mullally, Martin Starr, and Ryan Hansen all starred as wannabe actors and writers stuck working a crap job for an even crappier catering company. The episodes mostly involved them hating their lives and making desperate bids for Hollywood relevance, frequently hosting parties led by Hollywood big wigs. It lasted for two awesome seasons before finally being cancelled last year. The final episode is made even more sad(and kinda funny too) by the fact that it earned a 0.0 Nielsen rating. That's tough to do.

While speaking at a Party Down marathon held by the Alama Drafthouse, Rob Thomas had this to say about the possibility of more of the show in the future...

Thomas: People are talking to us about doing a Party Down movie. We are pretty far down the deal-making process with that, so we’re hopeful that there will be a Party Down movie. Ideally, if it works out we could be shooting in television hiatus time next spring. Hopefully that deal will close, and we’ll all tweet about it when it does.

0.0. That's all I'm sayin'. Who would this movie be for? It certainly wouldn't be in a theater anywhere in this country. So are we talkin' straight-to-DVD? Whatever. Thomas has held this carrot under our noses before with no results, so I'll believe it when I see it. [Slashfilm]
