* Just a few days ago, it appeared that Paul Greengrass was set to add another film to his extensive list of possible projects. The film was Maersk Alabama(awful title), based on the true story of Capt. Richard Phillips' kidnapping at the hands of Somali pirates. Now Deadline is reporting that Sony has officially made Greengrass an offer to direct, with the likelihood that it will be his next film. Tom Hanks has long been attached to star. The trade also notes that there's still some life left in Greengrass's Martin Luther King Jr. biopic, Memphis. Surprised by that bit.
* The coolest premise for an upcoming film I've heard all year was for Now You See Me, a high concept heist flick about a squad of FBI agents in a game of cat and mouse against a team of the world's best illusionists. How awesome does that sound? That news broke back in February, with Louis Letterier(The Incredible Hulk
) on board to direct, based on a script by Boaz Yakin(Fresh
) and Edward Ricourt. Now we're learning who'll be casting their spell as the stars of the show. Variety reports that Jesse Eisenberg has agreed in principle to star, with offers also out to Jake Gyllenhaal and Melanie Laurent(Inglourious Basterds
). Expect scheduling to be a major issue, so there's a good chance someone out of this group could drop out. * Never one to be left behind, Matt Damon has been itching to get behind the camera and direct just like his buddy Ben Affleck. While there are a couple of projects under consideration for him, the one that seems to be closest to happening is Father Daughter Time: A Tale of Armed Robbery and Eskimo Kisses. The story circles around a criminal who goes on a crime spree with his daughter. It's expected that Damon would play the father. When questioned about his directing future by Vulture, Damon responded that he has a film ready to kick off early in 2012, and that John Krasinski(Something Borrowed
) would be in it. Sounds good, but as who? And is Damon referring to Father Daughter Time or something else entirely?
