Hilary Swank to produce and star in sci-fi comic book adaptation, Shrapnel

It's been a rough couple of years for two-time Oscar winner Hilary Swank. Normally you'd be able to count on her name being mentioned as a Best Actress contender anytime she gave one of her grounded portrayals. But her performance as Betty Ann Waters in Conviction was mostly overlooked, and her turn as Amelia Earhart didn't draw much love either. Maybe Swank needs to take a turn from the real life stuff and star in something wild? When was the last time? The Reaping back in 2007? It appears that Swank feels the same way.

Radical Pictures has announced they'll be working with Swank on a sci-fi film which she'll both produce and star in. Titled Shrapnel, it's an adaptation of a graphic novel by Nick Sagan(son of Carl Sagan), M. Zachary Sherman, and Bagus Hutomo. Set in the year 2250, Swank will play Samantha Vijaya, a war hero who leads a revolt on Venus against the ruling government. The script will be adapted by Toby Wagstaff. A number of big name directors are said to be interesed in helming the film.

There's apparently a Shrapnel Iphone app out there already, but for the life of me I can't find it anywhere. A multiplayer video game is also said to be in the works. I think it'd be much more interesting if they made a SIMS style game out of her next film, New Year's Eve. Your mission would be to find a holiday f**kbuddy before the clock strikes midnight.
