Jurassic Park 4 definitely happening; Spielberg confirms a story in place
After about a decade of fits and starts, Jurassic Park 4 has been the center of a lot of attention lately. Last month it was revealed that Steven Spielberg had been brainstorming ideas for the dinosaur flick with writer Mark Protosevich, but just how serious these talks were was unclear. Now we have a pretty darn good idea, as today at Comic-Con Spielberg announced that they have a story already set...
Spielberg: "We have a story. We have a writer who is writing the treatment and hopefully we are going to make Jurassic park 4 in all of our foreseeable futures, hopefully in the next two or three years."
Spielberg didn't say it would be Protosevich doing the scripting work, but it's likely the case. Protosevich had been working with Spielberg on the remake of Oldboy which ended up going to Spike Lee.
Two or three years is a long time to wait. The last Jurassic Park film was in 2001 and directed by Joe Johnston(Captain America: The First Avenger). It was the lowest grossing of the franchise, yet still earned a whopping $368M worldwide. That in itself should tell you why Spielberg and Universal are so hard up to get this franchise jumpstarted again.
Will Spielberg direct it himself? Or pass the reins to somebody new? It didn't turn out so well last time. Should this even be happening at all? Are you excited for a Jurassic Park 4 after all these years? [Variety, E!Online]
