* We just
saw the trailer for
Graystone, the directorial debut of Oliver Stone's son, Sean. Now comes word that the two will be teaming up on a documentary set in Iran. Sean is reportedly already there, with a producer saying Sean will reveal more soon. I've never been a big fan of Stone's movies, but I love how unafraid he is with his documentaries. Bring it.
* Last night I saw Steven Soderbergh's viral outbreak film,
Contagion, and one thing it did other than make me want to live in my own little plastic bubble is put me on to the writing of Scott Z. Burns. Sure he's been around for a bit, having written one of the
Jason Bourne
films and also
The Informant!,
but he's really starting to hit his stride. His adaptation for
20,000 Leagues Under the Sea
will be helmed by David Fincher, and he'll tackle Steven Soderbergh's
The Man From U.N.C.L.E.
as well. But Burns also dabbles a little bit behind the camera, and he recently told
ThePlaylist that his next directing gig will a psychological thriller set in the world of pharmaceuticals titled
The Side Effects.
* Christa Campbell(
The Wicker Man
) has joined the cast of
Straight A's, the indie comedy from director James Cox. Ryan Phillippe plays a man in and out of rehab for years, who returns home to Shreveport at the behest of his dead mother. Luke Wilson plays his brother, married to Anna Paquin's character. Campbell will be a colleague of Wilson's character, who tempts him while away on a business trip. [
