A ton of new images from Steven Spielberg's The Adventures of Tintin

One of the biggest question marks of the year remains The Adventures of Tintin, the dream team-up of Steven Spielberg and Peter Jackson. While Jackson is embroiled in Middle Earth until late next year, Spielberg has two movies coming out at roughly the same time, with War Horse being the other. If I had to choose one I was more excited about, Tintin would definitely win out. Sorry, I just have a thing against horse stories ever since I was forced to read those Misty of Chincoteague books as a kid.

Based on the classic stories by Belgian artist Herge, Tintin is an intrepid, globe trotting reporter who always seems to find himself caught up in one adventure or another, and usually with his little terrier Snowy in tow. As you might expect with Jackson and his WETA team of super geeks involved, the film is being produced using their battle tested performance capture technique, which they've used so expertly in the Lord of the Rings flicks, King Kong, and recently in Rise of the Planet of the Apes. It's similar to what Robert Zemeckis has been doing for years, but WETA has found a way to add depth and emotion where earlier films like The Polar Express were unable.

Despite all the credentials Tintin has, we've heard precious little about it over here. Maybe it's because Tintin is a relatively unknown commodity to most folks. I remember watching the cartoon for awhile and loving the spirit and danger of the series. Based on the trailer we saw awhile back I think Spielberg has captured it perfectly. But if you're one of those who remains unaware of The Adventures of Tintin, a buttload of new images have been released which you can check out below...

The Adventures of Tintin featurs the voices of Jamie Bell, Daniel Craig, Andy Serkis, Simon Pegg, Nick Frost, Carey Elwes, and Toby Jones. It's due to hit theaters on December 23rd!
