Even though I'm not exactly the most devoted horror fan out there, part of me still feels bad that I haven't seen any of the [REC] series of movies. The Spanish-language flicks have become popular enough worldwide for their insane "zombie" action that an American remake was cranked out three years ago. One of the reasons I feel so bad is that I saw that film, Quarantine, but have so far ignored the original. So if you know the plot of Quarantine, which was basically a shot-for-shot reproduction, then you know the basic point: a virus gets out that turns people into zombie-ish freaks. The first one took place solely in an apartment building. The sequel followed a SWAT team of elite forces brought in to contain the outbreak. The third one, titled [REC]3: Genesis sees the virus spreading and involves....a wedding? I don't even want to guess, and since our friends over at Slashfilm suggest not watching the trailer until you've seen the first two, I'll politely hold off for awhile. However if you've seen both [REC] movies so far, feel free to indulge...
Co-director is back single handedly helming this one, while fellow co-creator Jaume Balaguero will return for the upcoming fourth film, [REC]: Apocalypse. It's unlikely we'll see these hit theaters here in the States, but the movies have done well on DVD so keep an eye out for it that way.
