Any time Alejandro Gonzalez Inarritu reveals a new project it's a cause for celebration. It's also probably a good idea for Oscars prognosticators to take notice as the Amores Perros, 21 Grams, Babel, and Biutiful director has a pretty good track record on that front. But does his latest film, the rather absurd-sounding comedy Birdman, have the goods to take advantage of its prime fall release date? The first trailer would suggest that it absolutely does.
Michael Keaton leads an all-star cast of Emma Stone, Naomi Watts, Andrea Riseborough, Edward Norton, and Zach Galifianakis, playing an actor best known for playing an iconic superhero. When he tries to mount a comeback in a Broadway play he starts to go a little nutso. So we've got Keaton going meta here, and with a somewhat darker tone highlighted by an ominous version of Gnarls Barkley's "Crazy" this looks like nothing we've seen from Inarritu before. Even the poster is off-the-wall.
Birdman is set to take flight October 17th.
