Twilight's Ashley Greene to star in Charles Dickens remake, Olivia Twisted
While the lead dogs of Taylor Lautner, Kristen Stewart, and Robert Pattinson have seen their stock rise exponentially as the faces of the wildly popular Twilight franchise, the supporting players have managed to soak up some of the run-off as well. Anna Kendrick has forged herself a career that has seen her already nominated for an Academy Award. Kellan Lutz is everywhere lately, and Jackson Rathbone...well, he's got The Last Airbender to atone for. Ashley Greene, who plays vampire Alice Cullen in the series, has seen an upswing as well. She'll co-star alongside Jennifer Garner and Hugh Jackman in the ensemble comedy, Butter, and now she's just grabbed a leading role that'll see her remaking a Charles Dickens classic.
Variety reports that Greene will star as the title character in Olivia Twisted, a modern take on Dickens' Oliver Twist. Announced earlier today at the Toronto International Film Festival, the film features a script by Michael Roberts, and follows a 19-year old girl and her gang of highly trained street urchins. Things go wrong when they accept a kidnapping job and find themselves in the middle of a turf war between two warring criminal factions.
No word on who'll direct, but with the goal of targeting younger viewers I wouldn't be surprised to if the person who gets the job is someone on the rise, not necessarily a longstanding vet.
