John Lithgow joins Galifianakis and Ferrell political comedy, Dog Fight
It's been a busy year for John Lithgow. Not only did he have one of the more moving performances of the summer as James Franco's father in Rise of the Planet of the Apes, but he managed to do some narration on Ken Burns' Prohibition documentary, and now he's travelling the country on a book tour for his autobiography. Not bad for the former 3rd Rock from the Sun star. Despite his schedule, he's still got time for what could be one of the more promising comedies of the electoral season, as he's joined the cast of Dog Fight.
Directed by Jay Roach, who knows his way around a political flick after helming HBO's Recount(and the upcoming Game Change), Dog Fight stars Will Ferrell and Zach Galifianakis as rival candidates running for office in a small, southern congressional district. Chris Henchy(Land of the Lost) and Shawn Harwell wrote the script.
Lithgow's role is unclear at this point, but with the bulk of the casting so far centered on the Galifianakis side of the equation, look for him to be in some way associated with Ferrell. Jason Sudeikis, Dylan McDermott, Katherine LaNassa, Sarah Baker, and Brian Cox co-star in the film which is currently in production for an August 10th 2012 release. [Variety]
