Sure Shots: Reese Witherspoon; James Wan; Chopping Mall

* Remember Wish List? That awful sounding, fluffy comedy Reese Witherspoon signed on to back in August? Unfortunately it's still happening, and now it's got a pair of high profile writers in Jonathan Aibel and Glenn Berger(Kung Fu Panda 2). The story centers on a woman who made 10 wishes at a coin fountain as a child, and now years later the wishes suddenly come true and prove disastrous to her adult life. Short of Water for Elephants, has anybody been in more of a rut than Witherspoon? She's so above crap like this, but if it took a Wishmaster style turn it could be awesome. [THR]

*  Horror maestro James Wan is still basking in the glow of his surprise hit, Insidious, which hauled in over $90M on a measley $1M budget. Not too bad. Before that film even opened, he signed a deal with Icon Entertainment to produce a number of horror films for the studio, the first of which is House of Horror. Initially set to be helmed by Javier Gutierrez, Xavier Gens(Hitman, The Divide) has now taken over the gig. The story centers on a murder investigation involving the massacre of five people revealed to be amateur ghost hunters. [Shocktilyoudrop]

* If done right, this could be pretty awesome. A remake of 1986's Roger and Julie Corman produced horror, Chopping Mall, is in the works. For those that don't remember, the original story had a number of teens trapped in a shopping mall where the security robots suddenly come to life and begin killing everyone in their path. Think Short Circuit if Johnny 5 was a total badass. Robert Hall(Laid to Rest) will direct, with a script by his usual writing partner, Kevin Bocarde. The only thing that worries me? The plan is to ease back on the sci-fi elements of the story and turn this into a supernatural horror instead. That could be a mistake. Still, I'm pretty excited to see another of those movies I was too young to be watching get remade. Can someone do Student Bodies next? [Variety]
