Tops at the Box Office: Immortals sends Jack and Jill tumbling down

1. Immortals- $32M
Congratulations to Relativity Media. The upstart studio has yet to really find it's footing, but with the better than expected opening for Immortals, they have room to celebrate. The swords and sandals flick benefited from a campaign that relied heavily on it's similarity to Zack Snyder's 300, and the hype surrounding star Henry Cavill, who will be playing Superman in year or so. I'll be most curious to see what this does for director Tarsem Singh, as this is clearly his biggest hit yet. Will this give him a an added boost going into his next film, the Snow White flick Mirror Mirror? We'll have to wait and see.

2. Jack and Jill- $26M
I'd like to knock you, America, for spending so much on the latest Adam Sandler disaster, but since I was forced to pay for it also, I'm partially responsible. The last few years haven't been good ones for Sandler, even though his movies generally make money. Critically they've been completely crushed, and it's starting to look like he makes them just so he can hang out with his buddies. What's most disturbing is that so many folks were interested in seeing Sandler don a frumpy dress, stick out his ass, and put on his worst Estelle Harris voice. Come to think of it, this week was a high water mark for the "men in drag" set with the release of J. Edgar.
3. Puss in Boots- $25.5M/$108.8M
4. Tower Heist- $13.2/$43.9M
In it's second week, Tower Heist held relatively well, only slipping about 45% from last week.
5. J. Edgar- $11.5M
Opening ini select cities only this week, Clint Eastwood's bio of the former FBI director got off to a strong start. But considering reviews of the film haven't exactly been glowing, it'll be interesting to see how it does upon expansion.
6. A Very Harold & Kumar 3D Christmas- $5.9M/$23.2M
The Harold and Kumar flicks have never really been huge grossers, aimed squarely at the stoner comedy crowd and appealing to few others. It appears that being the first holiday film out of the gate hasn't provided much of a boost, either, although this one may at least match the receipts of Harold and Kumar Escape from Guantanamo Bay($43M).
7. In Time- $4.1M/$30.6M
8. Paranormal Activity 3- $3.6M/$100.8M
Worldwide, the horror champ hasn't missed a beat, surpassing the total of Paranormal Activity 2.
9. Footloose- $2.7M/$48.9M
10. Real Steel- $2M/$81.7M
