Marvel eyes two Game of Thrones directors to take over Thor sequel

Ok, I see what Marvel is doing now. They aren't so much looking for left field choices to direct their sequel to Thor as much as they are looking for inexpensive choices. Excuse me for having the whole thing pegged wrong. I figured after the suprise success of Kenneth Branagh helming the first film they would go in a similar direction. Again, I was wrong.

After first selecting little known Bryan Kirk(Game of Thrones) to helm Thor 2, he dropped out and was replaced by another odd choice in Patty Jenkins(Monster). But with her departure last week due to creative differences, Marvel has turned their attention back to the small screen for their lead picks. THR reports that Game of Thrones directors Alan Taylor and Daniel Minehan are the two frontrunners right now. Taylor has a few big screen credits to his name, the most prominent was directing Palookaville, which starred Frances McDormand and Vincent Gallo. Minehan was one of the first to take a shot at the budding wave of reality TV with his violent satire, Series 7: The Contenders. Love that flick.

Marvel is also circling a handful of choices to rework Don Payne's script draft, with the chief being Roger Avary(Pulp Fiction), John Collee(Master and Commander), and Robert Rodat(Saving Private Ryan).

There's no rush for a decision to be made, as Thor isn't due to open until November 15th 2013.
