Late last year we learned Kyoko Okazaki's disturbing 2003 manga, Helter Skelter, was being developed into a live-action film starring controversial singer/actress Erika Sawajiri(Shinobi: Heart Under Blade). The award winning psychological horror manga follows Ririko, a beauty obsessed model who underwent extensive amounts of plastic surgery, only to watch her body and sanity deteriorate over time.
We're now getting our first look at the film in a newly released teaser, and if you've seen the work of photographer turned director Mika Ninagawa before, then you'll recognize the visual style right away. The extreme color palette will remind many of Tarsem Singh, and it's something we saw from her before with her critically acclaimed debut, Sakuran.
Helter Skelter opens in Japan on July 14th, and as always we hope it finds a way into American theaters...
