One look at the cast for Neighborhood Watch and you might think we're in for a comedy on the level as something like say...Anchorman or Old School. Ben Stiller, Vince Vaughn, Jonah Hill make for a powerful trio, and then you add the talents of Brit fave Richard Ayoade(Submarine) into the mix and it appears to be a recipe for greatness. But this isn't your typical fratboy or midlife crisis comedy, although those elements are clearly involved. This is also a science fiction film, although you'd never believe it by the newly released teaser.
In our first real, albeit brief look at the film we get to see the gang cruisin' up and down the block as part of the neighborhood watch program, decked out in their slick blue jackets, making a mockery of Dr. Dre's hood anthem 'Still D.R.E.'. What is it about white people, hip hop, and slow motion that is always so damn funny? This being a teaser we don't get much more than that, except the gang getting a little overzealous in their busting a kid for egging their geek mobile. I'm curious to see how Will Forte, Rosemarie Dewitt, Billy Crudup, and Doug Jones(Hellboy) fit into the picture.
Akiva Schaffer(Hot Rod) doesn't do much for me as director, but with Seth Rogen and Evan Goldberg providing the script there is reason for optimism. Neighborhood Watch opens on July 27th...[HeyUGuys]
