Elizabeth Olsen offered the female lead in Spike Lee's 'Oldboy' remake
Could the Oldboy casting woes finally be coming to an end? It's probably best not to hold our collective breaths. After getting off to a great start, with Spike Lee to direct and Josh Brolin in the lead. But ever since it's basically been running in molasses, with producers unable to find anyone to fill the other most crucial roles. At least they're aiming high, targeting Colin Firth and Clive Owen to play the film's "villain",with both turning it down. Rooney Mara and Mia Wasikowska were also approached. What the hell is with these live-action manga adaptations that they just can't find ever get off the ground? It's like they've all been bitten by the Akira virus.
The latest to be made an offer for the female lead is Elizabeth Olsen, one of the hottest actresses around right now. Her breakthrough role as a psychologically scarred ex-cult member in Martha Marcy May Marlene I think makes her the perfect fit for Oldboy, because if you know the manga or Park Chan-Wook's untouchable 2003 film, then you know her character goes through some pretty heinous stuff.
Olsen has a ton of projects coming up, starting with the psycho horror Silent House due out next week. Time in her schedule is available, though, so we may looking at one more piece to the Oldboy puzzle falling into place. [Twitch]
