Ewen Bremner finds his way into 'Snow Piercer', from director Bong Joon-Ho
Snow Piercer is already looking like a tough film to beat in 2013. Marking the English language debut from South Korean director Bong Joon-Ho(The Host, Mother), the film has an amazing internationally flavored cast doing high concept science fiction. Along with Chris Evans, Tilda Swinton, Jamie Bell, John Hurt, and Song Kang-Ho set to star, the film got a nice boost when co-star Octavia Spencer took home Best Supporting Actress last night at the Oscars. You think that won't make the marketing campaign?
The latest to hop aboard the train is Scottish actor, Ewen Bremner. Probably best known for playing "Spud" Murphy in Trainspotting, Bremner has been appearing mostly in TV over the last couple of years. Although in that time he's also found time to to appear in a couple of Woody Allen flicks, including 2010's You Will Meet a Tall Dark Stranger. Don't hold that against him, though. He's actually a very good character actor, and should fit in to this ensemble very well.
Based on the French graphic novel, Le Transperceneige, the story takes place in a devastated future earth locked in a perpetual winter. A train headed nowhere in particular houses the last few remaining survivors, and as supplies dwindle factions begin to break out. Think Lord of the Flies style, with some taking charge and using their leverage for personal gain. Bremner will play a father who recruits Evans' character to help rescue his kidnapped son.
Filming on Snow Piercer begins in April, so we should see it in 2013. Hopefully very early on. [Variety]
