Peter Berg lines up Mark Wahlberg, Ben Foster, and Taylor Kitsch for 'Lone Survivor'

Another friggin' Navy Seals movie? Yeah, but this one might be pretty good rather than a 90 minute attempt to lure some unwitting types into joining the military. For one thing, it'll be directed by Peter Berg, who knows his way around explosion action and has been trying to get this film off the ground for a few years. And even better, it features a handful of top notch stars who are all quite familiar with one another.

Mark Wahlberg, Ben Foster, and Taylor Kitsch are set to play three of the four lead characters in Lone Survivor, a military actioner that is right up Berg's alley. Those craving the "authenticity"*snicker* of Act of Valor will be happy to know the film is based on the novel by ex-Navy Seal Marcus Luttrell, detailing an incident in 2005 where his team was ambushed by Taliban forces during a covert operation to kill a terrorist leader in the Hindu Kush region of Afghanistan. Plans are for the film to shoot in the fall, so this one is definitely on the fast track. Berg wrote the script after spending a month with a Seal unit in the Middle East.

It's familiar territory for Berg anyway, having spent time in the region directing The Kingdom. He'll be pairing up Taylor Kitsch yet again, who got his big break starring in the Berg produced Friday Night Lights and will take lead in Battleship this coming May.  Foster and Wahlberg just recently paired up for Contraband. Wahlberg will take on the role of Luttrell in the film.

This sounds awesome, and a much better fit for Berg than Battleship appears to be.Now the search is on for the fourth member of the squad, but can he possibly compare to the three already on board? Color me very excited to see where this goes. [Deadline]
