As Dominic Cooper drops out, Jake Gyllenhaal steps in for 'Motor City'

Last month, when the red hot Dominic Cooper took over the lead role in Cities from the departing Clive Owen, it was speculated that he may not be able to do it and still star in Albert Hughes' noirish crime thriller, Motor City. Turns out the assumptions were dead on, as he's not been replaced by Jake Gyllenhaal.

Coming off a heroic performance in Source Code last year, Gyllenhaal is stepping into a grittier role than we're used to seeing him in. Based on the Black List script by Chad St. John, the story follows a petty crook framed and sent to prison, only to get out years later hot for some cold revenge. What separates this rather conventional sounding film from the others? The main character only has one line of dialogue, so Gyllenhaal better make it count! Something tells me it won't be "These pretzels are makin' me thirsty"!

Gary Oldman is playing the bad guy, with Amber Heard as the woman Gyllenhaal loves. Cooper might have made for a more interesting lead, but this is still some rock solid casting. Filming should begin this spring, and a few months later we'll see Gyllenhaal in End of Watch, opening on September 28th. [Variety]
