D.J. Caruso to direct 'Invertigo', from 'Transformers' scribe Ehren Kruger

Although D.J. Caruso(Disturbia) keeps seeing his name attached to comic book adaptations like Y the Last Man and Preacher, those projects only seem to end up in development Hell. With the flop that was I Am Number Four in the rear view mirror, Caruso is taking on a promising new original sci-fi film from Ehren Kruger, the writer behind Michael Bay's Transformers franchise. Yes, they had a script and no, it wasn't written by a five year old. Shocker, I know.

Sony has locked up Caruso to direct Invertigo, from Kruger and co-writer Bradley Cramp. The story sounds like something out of Michael Bay's fondest explosion filled reams, centering on an Earth that has its gravitational pull reversed after a NASA satellite crash lands in New York. Of course a rescue mission is mounted, led by Bruce Willis, Ben Affleck, and Michael Clarke Duncan. Huh? Oh, that was Armageddon. My bad.

The plan is for this to be a huge, special effects spectacle, and Sony wants to do it up right even as they try and fast track it into production. Still, it's possible filming might not begin until early next year. [Deadline]
