Is it possible that Elle Fanning has surpassed her older sister, Dakota? A brief look at their recent roles would seem to indicate so. In the last two years alone she's starred in Sofia Coppola's Somewhere, Cameron Crowe's We Bought A Zoo, J.J. Abrams' Super 8, and will lead Francis Ford Coppola's comeback in Twixt. Dakota? Other than a decent turn in The Runaways she's been looking grim and disinterested in The Twilight Saga: Breaking Dawn. Nope, not even a comparison. Dakota's still a great young actress, but clearly others are seeing something special in Elle right now.
Apparently the folks at Disney see it as well, because Twitch reports she's entered talks to join Angelina Jolie in Maleficent, the Sleeping Beauty reimagining focusing on the iconic villainess. Fanning would be up for the role of the slumbering Princess Aurora, with Jolie as the evil witch who puts her there.
Jolie, who has been busy recently with her fantastic directorial debut, In the Land of Blood and Honey, has said this will be her next acting gig. First-time director Robert Stromberg will be at the helm if filming begins in June as expected.
