The Garbage Pail Kids are headed back to the big screen!?
If you were a kid growing up in the 1980s then chances are you were familiar with the Garbage Pail Kids. The series of gross Topps trading cards were introduced in 1985 and were a direct shot at the popular Cabbage Patch Kids dolls. Featuring a bunch of gross characters like Acne Amy, Donna Donor(a girl with a cut finger spilling pools of blood), and my personal favorite, Max Axe(an executioner hovering over severed limbs), the cards were a massive success at the time.
Spawning a controversial TV series that never made it's way to our Saturday Morning cartoons(I wonder why!?), there was also an atrocious live-action film released in 1987 featuring dwarf actors in crude interpretations of some the most popular 'Kids'. Not only is it considered one of the worst movies ever made, an accolade it richly deserves, but also was an utter failure at the box office, taking in roughly $1.5M. And yet somebody wants to give it another shot.
Short film and commercials director PES....yes, that is his name....will be behind the camera for a new feature length movie based on The Garbage Pail Kids. Based on a script by Michael Vukadinovitch, it will be produced and financed by The Tornante Company, which is run by ex-Disney CEO Michael Eisner.
Nostalgia is one thing, but this is a going a little overboard, don't you think? Is anybody excited to see The Garbage Pail Kids come back? [Deadline]
