New Line preps 'Journey 2: The Mysterious Island' sequel

I've never been more wrong about anything this year than about Journey 2: The Mysterious Island. At the time it came out I said there was no way it hang around and do half as much business as 2008's Journey to the Center of the Earth, and now here we are only a few weeks later and it has $247M, kicking much ass overseas and not doing so badly here.  Never let me doubt the box office potential of Dwayne Johnson again, ok dear readers?

With that much dough, there was no question that New Line would be looking for another Journey, and THR reports that's exactly what we're getting. Director Brad Peyton, along with screenwriters Brian and Mark Gunn are set to return for the Jules Verne based film. Where will they go this time? Does it really matter?

No word on which of the film's stars will return, but clearly the studio would be foolish to not ask Johnson back,  although he's going to be expensive now. The same goes for Josh Hutcherson, who is going to see his profile(and asking price) skyrocket after The Hunger Games. Maybe Brendan Fraser could return for the long awaited rematch from The Mummy Returns?
