Randy Orton the frontrunner to star in 'The Marine: Homefront'

When WWE Studios signed a three picture deal with Fox Home Entertainment last month, one of the movies that was part of the deal was The Marine: Homefront. It would be the the second sequel to what is the WWE's most memorable film(for all the wrong reasons), 2006's The Marine, which starred poster boy John Cena as a...well, a marine who saves his woman from a bunch of escaped criminals.

PWInsider has learned that WWE superstar, Randy Orton, has emerged as the frontrunner to star in the film, with officials wanting a big name the caliber of Cena to lead it. Orton, aka 'The Viper' or my favorite 'The Legend Killer', certainly fits the bill. He had previously been attached to star in The Marine 2, but due to an injury the role went to the lesser known Ted Dibiase, Jr.

It was only a few weeks ago that Orton tweeted that a major movie project was coming up for him, and this might be what he was talking about. I think it's a smart move capitalizing on Orton's success in this way. He's got the look and the charisma to be a star if he ever wanted to venture into Hollywood, but whether or not he has the acting chops remains to be seen.
