Steve Carell to star in 'Magic Kingdom for Sale-SOLD!'
Maybe doing a middling comedies like Get Smart and Date Night(which is pretty funny, don't get me wrong) turned Steve Carell off, because lately he's been attaching his name to every high concept comedy he can. Not only will he be starring in the apocalyptic comedy Seeking a Friend for the End of the World, opposite Keira Knightley, and there's absolutely nothing more wacko than Charlie Kaufman's Frank or Francis.
Right now Carell is filming Burt Wonderstone, the magician rivalry flick which sees him going wand-to-wand with Jim Carrey for the first time since Bruce Almighty, but that hasn't stopped him from adding another project to his schedule. Hollywood.com says that he's currently attached to star in an adaptation of Magic Kingdom for Sale-SOLD!. Based on the first of Terry Brooks' Magic Kingdom of Landover series, the story follows a widowed lawyer who buy literal fantasy land from a Christmas catalog for $1M. After being whisked away there, he discovers the kingdom is in turmoil and must unite the humans and creatures to defeat an evil demon looking to destroy them all.
A new search for a director is on, as Stephen Sommers(G.I. Joe: The Rise of Cobra) is no longer attached. Akiva Goldsman will produce, from a script by Craig Wright(Lost).
