Sure Shots: Woody Allen; The Chemical Brothers; Stephen King

* Getting Woody Allen to star in a film he hasn't directed is nearly impossible. Actually, I don't think he's done it since Picking Up the Pieces way back in 2000(correct me if I'm wrong), but he's about to do it again in John Turturro's next directorial effort. He and the irritating Sofia Vergara(Modern Family) have joined the cast of Fading Gigolo, featuring the previously cast Sharon Stone. Allen will play the best friend to Turturro's character, who both decide to get into the gigolo business. Stone will play Allen's dermatologist, with Vergara as a wealthy client. Turturro's character eventually falls in love with a Jewish widow, in a twist that sounds like something Allen might've dreamed up. Filming on Fading Gigolo begins next month. [Variety]

* When I think of the piss poor Best Original Score and Best Original Song category at the recent Academy Awards, it makes me break out in hives with anger. Drive, Attack the Block, The Girl with the Dragon Tattoo all should have been nominated ahead of what we got. Another they overlooked was Hanna, Joe Wright's hit-girl flick backed by a pumping score by The Chemical Brothers.  ThePlaylist has learned they'll next compose the soundtrack for Louis Leterrier's awesome sounding heist flick, Now You See Me. Currently filming, it stars Jesse Eisenberg, Melanie Laurent, Michael Caine, Morgan Freeman, Isla Fisher, Common, Dave Franco, Mark Ruffalo, and Woody Harrelson in a game of cat and mouse between superstar illusionist robbers against a crack FBI squad. The film opens on January 18th 2013.

* Speaking of acclaimed writers who don't appear on screen that much, Stephen King will make a cameo in Writers, the directorial debut from Josh Boone. Starring Greg Kinnear, Jennifer Connelly, Kristen Bell, Lily Collins, Nat Wolff, and Logan Lerman, the indie dramedy follows a successful novelist navigating his feelings towards his ex-wife, while also trying to connect with his two children. I'm assuming King will appear as himself. Call it a hunch. Filming begins next week.
