'Underworld: Awakening' directors head home for 'Collected Swedish Cults'

They dipped their toes in the Hollywood pool, scored a hit, and now are headed back to their native Sweden. Mans Marlind and Bjorn Stein helped re-introduce the world to the vampire Selene(Kate Beckinsale) with Underworld: Awakening, earning $157M at the box office and keeping that franchise alive, but rather than jumping on the first American offer that comes their way, the directing duo will tackle a hometown horror based on the Collected Swedish Cults.

Based on the horror anthology by Andres Fager, the book is a collection of supernatural stories centered on the battle between good vs. evil that form one larger tale. Marlind will write the script, and as usual will team up with Stein behind the camera. The two previously worked together on the 2005 Swedish fantasy thriller, Storm, and in 2010's Shelter which starred Julianne Moore.

We'll likely see the film open some time in 2013. [THR]
