Brad Pitt and Javier Bardem to join Ridley Scott's 'The Counselor'

The Counselor has been progressing along like greased lightning ever since the film, which features an original script by author Cormac McCarthy, was announced just a couple of months ago. Ridley Scott jumped on board to direct in record time, making it priority #1, and the hottest actor in Hollywood, Michael Fassbender, signed to star. Not to mention every bit of A-list talent in the biz has been hovering like vultures trying to get just a small piece of the film described as being similar to McCarthy's No Country for Old Men.

Well two of those big names are on the verge of being official, as Deadline reports that Brad Pitt and Javier Bardem are locked in and ready to go. Bardem makes sense, considering he won an Academy Award for playing the bad guy in 'No Country'. I believe he's taking the part that Jeremy Renner was also being discussed for. Pitt hasn't worked with Scott since Thelma and Louise, and is said to be taking on the role of West Ray, a man who advises Fassbender's character, the titular counselor in navigating the drug trade from which he's trying to escape.

As for Angelina Jolie, rumored yesterday to be up for a small role, she's still in contention but it'll be for the female lead. That doesn't sound like a cameo to me at all. So yeah, this is turning out to be a truly charmed production.
