Adam Levine joins John Carney's 'Can A Song Save Your Life?'

As a judge on NBC's The Voice, Maroon 5's Adam Levine has done a pretty good job acting as if he cares about any of it. In reality, the singer has been trying to get his legit acting career off the ground, recently landing a stint on FX's American Horror Story. Now he's landed himself a film in a major film, as well, one which has a pretty sweet musical pedigree attached.

Levine will join John Carney's Can A Song Save Your Life? The film currently has Keira Knightley, Mark Ruffalo, and Hailee Steinfeld attached, with Judd Apatow serving as an exec producer. Levine will play the boyfriend to Knightley's character, with both heading to NYC to pursue their musical careers, only to have him dump her for a solo contract. She then meets and forms a relationship with a hard luck record producer, played by Ruffalo.

Carney is best known as the writer/director of 2006's Once, which starred the musical duo known as The Swell Season, consisting of Marketa Irglova and Glen Hansard.  The film, my favorite musical of all-time by the way, was a love story that hit home with a number of people, partially due to the real life romance taking place during filming. The love and connection they forged together on screen was palpable, and shone bright during each performance. Whether Carney can replicate that in this film, or if that's even the point, remains to be seen. Whatever the case, this is a smart move for Levine, getting his career started on comfortable footing. Production is set to begin this summer. [Deadline]
