Cobie Smulders and Michael Ian Black join rom-com parody, 'They Came Together'

Nobody else is going to admit this, but the real star of The Avengers wasn't Robert Downey Jr., Chris Hemsworth, or even Joss Whedon's writing and directing. It was Cobie Smulders as Maria Hill. That's right. Just as she's the only reason to ever watch How I Met Your Mother. What else would you turn to it for? Jason Segel? Pffft! Now Smulders is set to steal the spotlight from the likes of Amy Poehler and Paul Rudd in David Wain's romantic comedy satire, They Came Together.

Smulders will be joined by Michael Ian Black(The State) in the small budget film, which has Rudd starring as Joel, a business exec working for a major corporation that wants to take over the small knick-knack shop run by Molly, played by Poehler. Basically what we're looking at is a total send up of You've Got Mail, which should be great considering the wealth of comedic talent involved. Jason Mantzoukas, Ed Helms, Max Greenfield, and Noureen Dewulf co-star. Wain, who still has some making up to do after Wanderlust, wrote the script alongside Michael Showalter.

So Cobie Smulders and these other people will begin production on They Came Together shortly, with a release some time in 2013. [THR]
