Common to star in remake of Francois Truffaut's 'The Man Who Loved Women'

I have to give it up to Common. The rapper turned actor was one of my favorites of the 90s and early 2000's, before taking what I thought would be a disastrous turn into acting. Starring in a movie like Smokin' Aces didn't help. He's actually turned out to be a solid actor, who is just starting to find his footing as a leading man, doing a pretty good job opposite Queen Latifah in Just Wright.

If his next project pans out, it could be the one that makes him a household name for his on screen talents rather than on the microphone. Shadow and Act reports that an "urban update"(*shudder*) of Francois Truffaut's 1977 French comedy, The Man Who Loved Women, is in the works with Common set to lead. J. Kevin Swain will make his directorial debut, and he's looking to surround the film with some pretty hot ladies such as Kerry Washington, Freida Pinto, Alicia Keyes, Taraji P. Henson, and Eva Marcelle.

A lot of people were down on Truffaut's film, and certainly if compared to some of his other stuff like The 400 Blows, it seems trite and insignificant. I personally am a big fan, mainly because of the lead performance by Charles Denner, who manages to remain charming even though his character is an irresponsible slut. The story will have its setting switched from Paris to Buenos Aires, and follows an artist named Marc Guinness who sleeps with a ton of women and decides to write a memoir about it.

No word on when filming could begin, but I think the best we can hope for is that it at least be better than the terrible Blake Edwards remake from 1983.
