'Curse of Chucky' to begin filming this September
We've been hearing tons lately about plans to revisit Chucky, the murderous living doll who was such a horror fixture in the late 80s and 90s as part of the Child's Play franchise. Part of the reason is that there are actually two parallel Chucky films in the works. A remake headed up by MGM is the one we've heard the most about, but it appears Universal is further along with what they plan to be a sequel, titled Curse of Chucky.
Moviehole has learned that filming on the project will begin this September, with plans for it to release straight-to-DVD. No theatrical run? Come on, guys! Child's Play creator, Don Mancini, is back to direct this installment, with Brad Dourif also returning to voice Chucky, so there's a sense of legitimacy to this project that MGM will have a hard time matching.
As usual, Chucky will be turning his rampage against an innocent family, only this time it's one that's in the grip of mourning. The story will follow Nica, a woman who has been in a wheelchair since birth, and reunited with her family in the wake of their mother's funeral. However, when they all start being murdered one by one, Nica discovers that the killer might be a strange doll she received only a few days prior.
Unfortunately it doesn't sound like we'll be seeing Tiffany, Chucky's female counterpart voiced by Jennifer Tilly. The last Child's Play film was 2004's Seed of Chucky, which actually did pretty good during its run. Curse of Chucky is expected to hit store shelves some time in 2013.
