New domestic trailer for Rian Johnson's 'Looper'

We've seen Rian Johnson reinvent the film noir with Brick, reimagine the heist film with The Brothers Bloom, and in a few months we may be talking about how he did the same thing with science fiction. Fresh off of yesterday's international trailer for Looper, a new domestic one has been released with new footage that presents the already mindbending premise from another angle.

Starring Joseph Gordon-Levitt in some heavy and pretty impressive prosthetics, Looper has him playing a hitman in the present, who has his targets sent to him from the future, where time travel has been perfected. The twist comes when his next victim turns out to be a future version of himself, played by Bruce Willis. Unlike the similarly trippy Total Recall remake, Looper looks like it has a firm grip on the potentially confusing plot, with the action used to move the story forward rather than as a crutch. Not sure where Levitt got that voice from, but it sounds like he's been drinking lighter fluid.

Looper looks fantastic, and since it's coming out a little bit later in the year, we may even see it get some awards love on the technical side. Emily Blunt, Paul Dano, Jeff Daniels and Piper Perabo will be a part of the action when Looper hits theaters on September 28th....
