Trailer Time: 'The Silver Linings Playbook', starring Bradley Cooper and Jennifer Lawrence

We haven't seen much from The Silver Linings Playbook, which is odd since the film is only a few short months away from release. Other films coming out around that same time have been long into their marketing campaigns, so is The Weinstein Company's delaying tactic a bad sign? Or is it a carefully orchestrated means of keeping the film fresh in our minds for awards voting? Based on the newly released trailer, the smart money's on the latter.

Based on Matthew Quick's novel and directed by David O. Russell(The Fighter), the film stars Bradley Cooper as Pat Peoples, an ex-high school teacher newly released from a mental ward and into the home of his mother(Jacki Weaver). Trying to slowly rebuild the pieces of his old life, he attempts to reconcile with his ex-wife, while also starting up something new with the aggressive Tiffany(Jennifer Lawrence), who may be just as messed up in the head as he is. There's definitely a quirky vibe similar to some of Russell's previous films like Flirting with Disaster and I Heart Huckabees, but there are some poignant touches as well.

Robert De Niro, Chris Tucker, Julia Stiles, and Taylor Schilling co-star in the film, which looks like it may be trying to ride the balance between art house fare and mainstream dramedy. Russell's proven to be pretty good at walking that tightrope in the past. We'll find out if he does it again when The Silver Linings Playbook opens on November 21st.
