Amanda Plummer to play Wiress in 'The Hunger Games: Catching Fire'

With Jena Malone and Philip Seymour Hoffman recently locking down the roles of Johanna Mason and Plutarch Heavensbee in Catching Fire, the natural assumption was that Lionsgate would finish what they started in casting Finnick Odair. There are a number of new characters in The Hunger Games sequel, however, and it looks like they've decided to save Finnick for later.

In a move that I think is pretty damn inspired, Amanda Plummer has been chosen to take on the role of Wiress in the film. Plummer is probably best known for her role as Honey Bunny in Pulp Fiction, but she's been everywhere and done everything from screen to stage to TV and even radio. Wiress is a pretty important character in Catching Fire, as one of the older victors brought back for the Quarter Quell. Referred to as "Nuts" by some of the others, Wiress is an inventor with an unusual form of communication. Most of her sentences are finished by a fellow genius named Beetee, and she along with him prove invaluable in figuring out the "mechanics" of the latest competition.

Plummer's been away from any recognizable screen work for awhile, but this is a pretty good way to jump back in. Francis Lawrence is directing The Hunger Games: Catching Fire for release on November 22nd 2013.
