Andrew Stanton to direct 'Finding Nemo' sequel
You can always go home again, right? If you're Andrew Stanton, and you just blew a few hundred million of Disney's dollars on John Carter, then you damn well better hope so. Fortunately for him, his old home is Pixar, and they're a pretty welcoming bunch, as they've decided to give the floundering director a major second wind.
Deadline reports that Stanton has been set up to direct Finding Nemo 2, a sequel to their fishy 2003 hit. What's with Pixar and all the friggin' sequels, lately? If this were any other studio one would have to start wondering if they were out of original ideas, but we know from the slate they've got coming up that isn't the case. Still, they were the studio that for years stayed mostly free from cranking out franchises, and obviously that's no longer the case. This is a film Disney has been wanting to see get done for awhile, so they're obviously happy, and with Finding Nemo re-releasing in 3D starting in September, a whole new generation of fans will be familiar with it.
Although Stanton won an Oscar for his work on the previous film, he's not coming back solely for that reason. According to the trade, he's taking this on in hopes of securing another crack at a live-action movie. Perhaps....a John Carter sequel? Lord let's hope not, although it would make that sad lot of Taylor Kitsch fans wet themselves with joy.
