Sure Shots: Jon Favreau; Deepwater Horizon; Jay Baruchel
* Hey, another actor/director is joining Martin Scorsese's The Wolf of Wall Street. Maybe Scorsese himself can be convinced to step in front of the camera? With Rob Reiner joining awhile back, the latest addition is Jon Favreau, stepping into the role of a securities lawyer. The film is based on Jordan Belfort's memoir about his hard partying, hard gambling lifestyle as a stock broker, which ultimately led to his conviction for securities fraud. Leonardo DiCaprio will play Belfort, with Jean Dujardin, Jonah Hill, Kyle Chandler, Jon Bernthal, Margot Robbie, Rob Reiner, and Cristin Milioti co-starring. Favreau is currently reprising his role of Happy Hogan in Iron Man 3, and is developing an adaptation of hit Broadway musical, Jersey Boys. [Deadline]
* It's a shame that the world seems to have forgotten the Deepwater Horizon oil spill, as it continues to have a dramatic impact on our planet two years after it happened. Hopefully Summit Entertainment can bring some attention back to it with their upcoming film, based on the New York Times article, Deepwater Horizon's Final Hour, published in December 2010. Ric Roman Waugh(Felon) looks to be the man to direct the film, with a script by Matthew Sand(Ninja Assassin). The story will chronicle the bravery of those who worked on the doomed oil rig leading up to the tragic event. [Deadline]
* Just a few days ago we learned that Jay Baruchel was circling a role in Jose Padilha's remake of Robocop. At the we didn't know much about what the part could entail, but now we're starting to learn more. While he hasn't signed on the dotted line just yet, Baruchel would be the head of marketing for OmniCorp, the defense contractor we saw in those cool viral ads that gave us our first look at their drone/cyborg program. If all falls into place, he'll join Joel Kinnaman, Samuel L. Jackson, Gary Oldman, Abbie Cornish, Jackie Earle Haley, and Hugh Laurie. [THR]
