1st look at 'The Way, Way Back', starring Steve Carell and Sam Rockwell

Winning an Oscar goes a long way in getting your other pet projects onto the silver screen. For Jim Rash and Nat Faxon, winning the award for The Descendants' screenplay helped get their long-developing coming of age drama, The Way, Way Back off and running. Once a project eyed for Shawn Levy to direct, the duo decided to take the reins themselves, and the cast they've managed to pull together is pretty stellar.

We're getting our first look at The Way, Way Back, which stars Steve Carell, Toni Collette, Sam Rockwell, Maya Rudolph, Liam James, Annasophia Robb, Allison Janney, Amanda Peet, Zoe Levin, and Rob Corddry. Told you it was stellar. The film follows a teenaged boy who sparks a friendship over the course of a summer that gives him the strength to stand up to his boozing, abusive stepfather.

While there's no distribution and thus no release date, we'll probably see it some time next year. [NYT]
