1st official look at Daniel Day-Lewis in Steven Spielberg's 'Lincoln'
How is it we've gone this far with practically nothing seen of Steven Spielberg's Lincoln? Clearly, it's a film that is going to factor into the awards season voting in a major way, and with the biopic due to hit theaters in just a couple of months, we're finally getting our first official look at it. Up to this point all we've seen are some random shots of Daniel Day-Lewis on set as Abe Lincoln, eating lunch or just hangin' out...in character the whole time, no doubt(although Spielberg says otherwise). I wonder if he wrestled any bears? Anyway, now courtesy of EW we have our first real image from the long-awaited adaptation.
Based on Doris Kearns Goodwin's influential novel, Team of Rivals: The Political Genius of Abraham Lincoln, the film chronicles the last few months of Lincoln's life as he works with his turbulent Cabinet to try and abolish slavery. The two-time Oscar winner more than looks the part, and you can bet his performance will be just as bombastic and polarizing as ever. It looks like this image may be the President enjoying a theater show, possibly even the same one on the night of his assassination.
Although Day-Lewis will be the guy everybody focuses on, the ensemble Spielberg has put together is the stuff of legend, with Sally Field, Joseph Gordon-Levitt, John Hawkes, Tommy Lee Jones, David Oyelowo, Jared Harris, Lee Pace, James Spader, Tim Blake Nelson, Walton Goggins, David Strathairn, Hal Holbrook, Jackie Earle Haley, Gulliver McGrath, Adam Driver, and Michael Stuhlbarg all making the rounds as part of Lincoln's family or political colleagues. Hopefully this means we'll be getting a trailer in the next few days. Lincoln is set to open in limited release on November 9th, then expanding wider the following week.
